Blogmas -- Day 15

Hello Friends!  Welcome to Blogmas -- Day 15!  I am so excited you decided to join me here!

Sometimes, as a child, something happens that you never forget.  Something that is so ridiculous that even as a child, you ask, "WHY!?".  Have you ever had something happen like that?

One particular Christmas Eve, I had chicken pox and couldn't go to my Grandma's house for the family Christmas.  It must have been in 1970 because I was quite young.  My Mama and I stayed home, watched Christmas cartoons and she baked cookies or was prepping food for our meal on Christmas Day.  I don't remember that detail but she was in the kitchen and I was sitting in my Daddy's comfy, overstuffed chair.  I remember what was on the television..."Santa Claus is Coming to Town".  I still love that classic!  Anyhow, back to the story...

I was really into the cartoon but something caught my eye out the big picture window that was popular at that time. I won't ever forget that house on Parnell Dr. in Henderson, TX.  It actually used to be safe to not close the curtains, if you can believe that! So, the curtains were open and something moved outside. I looked and would you believe, there stood Santa Claus! I jumped up, with all my spotted, feverish, self and ran to the kitchen! "Mama, Mama, Mama! Santa Claus is outside! Santa Claus is outside! He's looking in the window!". Of course, my Mama probably thought I had lost my mind or maybe the fever had spiked and I was hallucinating because when she went to the window there was nobody there. I'm sure she told me to calm down and quit making stuff up.

But I wasn't making it up!  He was there!  Plain as day!

After awhile, Daddy and my siblings came home and and I told them all about Santa Claus looking in the window.  My siblings were excited, Mama was telling me to quit stirring them up...and Daddy being the jolly, happy guy, kept asking for more details, he laughed and laughed!  Mama not so much.  Soon, we opened a gift, probably had some popcorn and hot cocoa and were just getting ready to go to bed when one of our neighbors knocked on the door.

Daddy hollered, "Come in!" because it was also safe to not lock the doors, back then.  In walked one of our neighbors, laughing and declaring, "James, you ain't going to believe this $*#@".  Yeah, I know...but they were both truckdrivers so...

Anyhow, Mr. Jolley...Yes, that was his real name.  He had a houseful of little Jolley's too.  He told Daddy, "Come on, Santa Claus done got stuck in Ole So & So's chimney!".  So away they went...over to "Ole So & So's" house and sure enough there was Santa Clause stuck feet first in the chimney!

Knowing my Daddy and Mr. Jolley, that poor sap got his punishment in the way of them making fun of and laughing at him.  They may have even poked him with a stick or something.  You never know with those two but I bet he felt pretty silly and  real low by the time the police and fire department got there.

I know, after a couple of hours, Daddy came home still laughing so hard I thought he would surely bust!  He told us what happened and of course, me being me, looked at Mama and said, "I told you so!".  Probably not the smartest thing to do but Daddy came to the rescue!  LoL

I know some of you will say that it didn't happen or that's just an Urban Legend.  That's fine but I know the truth and I will never forget the night Santa peeked in the window!  I am sure that houseful of Jolley folks never forget it either!

Thank you so much for visiting and reading my story.  It really is hard to believe but it's very true!  Moral of the story...never doubt a six year old with chicken pox!  LoL. Well that's probably not the moral of the story but there can be two morals, right?

Grace & Peace,

Pam
