Just trying to stay awake...

It is such a cool, cloudy, day and I am fighting to stay awake!  Truth be known, I will probably fail.  I love cool weather...perfect napping weather, in my opinion!

I finally had to break down and buy new cloths.  I have lost 69lbs and have only bought one new pair of yoga pants, a couple of skirts, and four new tank tops since having surgery in February.  I couldn't put it off any longer for fear of losing my pants while grocery shopping.  Now that would have fixed the problem of long check out lines!  Store clearing scene, for sure!  HeHeHe!  Now that I think about it, that might not be a bad thing!  So, since I am a known tightwad and hater of all things shopping related, I invited my beautiful, fashionista daughter, to go with me.  She's tough!  She takes no for an answer...NEVER!  And on top of that she has amazing taste in clothing and keeps it classy, sassy, and modest!  I knew she would be perfect to actually get me to spend money on myself.  I ended up with a pair of jeans, corduroy pants that I've been wanting, two cute tops, AND she let me buy yoga pants!  Only if they were to be worn with nice matching tops...I guess the days of wearing just whatever I find in the closet, are over!  At least for now...   I didn't buy too much because I am still losing weight but at least there won't be any public indecency charges brought against me!  Above getting new clothes, the biggest blessing was getting to spend time with my daughter.  She is so busy all the time and now with being pregnant and having a five year old, she doesn't have a lot of extra time.  I thank God for the time we spent together.  Oh!  And yeah, I had to buy some little baby boy clothes, too, even though it is still five months until he will be born!  You know, how it is, Grandma's!  Just couldn't resist!

Mentioning buying for the new baby, I went last weekend and bought fabric to make blankets.  I decided I would try my hand at quilting so I also bought fabric for that.  This morning, as I was trying to stay awake, I cut the squares and got them all laid out.  Once I get my table from my craft booth, I will start piecing it together.  I have to wait until I get the folding table because I am smart... In all of my getting rid of and minimizing, I got rid of my sewing desk.  As if I weren't ever going to sew again...like that will ever happen.  Soooooo, now I either have to put the machine of the kitchen table or my computer desk.  Neither works well for me because once I start sewing I don't want to move anything until I am finished.  doh!  I'm a flippin' genius!

So anyhow, I'm still trying not to fall asleep but my inner self keeps saying, "It's cloudy, cool, and your pillow loves you."!  I think I'll go give it some love, right back.

Grace & Peace.

Size matters...

One of the things I am having trouble getting used to is cooking for two...technically, it's more like one and a quarter people.  Since I had surgery in February, the amount and type of food I am able to eat is very limited.  I discovered, last night, just how much my cooking chore has diminished, which honestly, I never considered it a chore because I love to cook and I am a darn good cook, to boot!  Apparently, I am also a bit conceited...

Not so many years ago, when I made meatloaf...which is the best meatloaf anywhere, so everyone that eats it says...  Anyhow, I would use this 13 X 9 X 2 pyrex casserole pan.  It would be full corner to corner and side to side.  There were never leftovers...ever!

So last night, as I stood making meatloaf, I looked at the paltry 1/2 pound of hamburger meat, the 1/4 onion and bell pepper, the half a slice of bread, and the tiny bit of ketchup, that was to be supper, and thought, "well, this isn't going to fill that pan up.  Not by a long shot.".

My Mister and I have been reduced to a mere
4 X 4 X 2 casserole pan.  Does this even register as a casserole pan?  Really???  AND...there were leftovers!!!  This new journey...this new lifestyle...is making me crazy!  How does one go from cooking enough for a small army to barely cooking enough for one person...and still have leftovers?  *sigh*  I guess this, too, will take some getting used to.

Grace & Peace.

Fall like and the big announcement!

The morning dawned cloudy and cool.  Just a teaser of Fall, really, but I couldn't resist going out and buying this Fall potpourri.  Fall is my favorite season and today was so nice.  It only reached 75* for the high, with a nice breeze, and to me, that is just about as perfect as you can get!  I was tempted to curl up on the couch, with a book and a cup of hot tea, but I decided to take a nap instead!

Just received a phone call from my grand daughter.  She was so excited to tell me the news!  I think she might have pee'd just a bit, she was so excited!  Y'all remember these pictures, from Granny's Square, don't you?

In her excitement her words came out something like...

"Guess what, Granny!!!???   blisakjkdfhahins;ekn;kasd;ifjpkja;sek;ei!!!"

I said, "What???".

She said, "aldgjpdfiupfkenajkhdvdfka;df".

I'm like, yeah she's happy!

This is what she was telling me in her fast talking, excitement!

She is finally getting the baby brother she has been wanting for the past three years!  LoL...she is going to be an awesome big sister!

Grace & Peace.

My Big Fat Ugly Eat-In Kitchen...

I have gotten rid of all the clutter in my kitchen.  Almost everything that collects dust is gone.  The old "country" theme is history... So... Now what!!!???

I would really like to start fresh!  These old cabinets need to be cleaned, sanded, and painted.  The floors need to be replaced, as you can see!  And the lighting is atrocious!  This kitchen is not yellow but between the horrible lighting and all that wood, it sure looks like it!

This is the other end of the room.  Say hello to LuLuBelle and Tater-Bug!  Tater blends in very well, doesn't he.  Pardon the mess on the table.  I am trying to get back into scrapbooking and this is where all my supplies land!  Goes back to my childhood, I guess.  We did everything at the kitchen table.  Like I said, it is a big eat in kitchen.  What I wouldn't give for a formal dining room!   I have plans for my husband to build a Harvest Table so all the kids and grandbabies can sit together during holiday meals!  I drives me nuts for part of the family to be in the living room while the rest of us are eating at the table!

This very large window is the best part of this kitchen, in my opinion.  As you can see, I have removed the curtains so I can get a better idea of what kind of window treatments I might want here.  I may not even want window treatments once I get the harvest table.

What I really need is for Brenda at Cozy Little House and Rue from An Old Fashioned World, to come in and work their magic, not only in this room but my entire house!

So...if this was your kitchen, and you had a very small budget, what would you do in this room?

Grace & Peace.

Too Hot!

It has been super hot this weekend.  I haven't done much because the heat just doesn't agree with me.  I did manage to walk around, the place, as the sun was going down and of course my camera was at hand.  Since I have nothing to chat about, I thought I would share the pics I took.

The hummingbirds and bees love the begonias.  Everytime I look out the window, I see them all around.

Miss Betty Jean always wants to check out the camera

This is a male kitty that lives in the field next to ours.  He is wild as a March hare but somehow I  managed to sneak up on him as he was taking a nap on the bench at the outdoor fireplace.  CLICK!!! went the camera and he jumped up and ran straight for the field!  I wonder if he is the one who has been getting my chickens lately!  I lost another one on Friday.  She was my best hen, too!

The prairie grass is tall and beautiful...ready to be cut for hay.

I found this sweet little hummingbird nest in our "fishing worm" tree(catawba).  I normally don't find the nests but I have several little birds flying around!  This was a special treat for me.

We have an abundance of cicadas in Oklahoma.  Everywhere you look, there is a shell hanging.  My grand daughter freaks out everytime she sees one!

The Flowering Crabapple tree has tons of tiny fruit on it.  The birds love them!

Beautiful Crepe Myrtle bush. It is the only thing blooming right now.

My beautiful tea roses are winding down.  I will be taking a few cuttings from this bush come September.

The Queen Anne rose blooms are beautiful even after they have started to die

Looks like our three pecan trees are producing lots of nuts!  I used to pick them up, by the buckets,  and make my Mister shell them, but now I only pick enough for a couple of pies and sweet breads.  The rest I leave for the squirrels and birds to eat over the winter months.

Zoo day...

My grand daughter will be going into kindergarten, this year, which is all day, around here.  she is only out for one more week and I am going to miss having her around everyday.  I've been babysitting her since she was born and we have a special bond.  She is excited about going to kindergarten because, "I'm five now, Granny!", which is a huge deal for a grown up five year old!  I am not so excited!  How am I going to spend my days?  I guess this will be a part of "finding my stride".

Since she only has a week before school starts, Papaw and I decided to take her to the zoo, this past Sunday.  I never get to go because of my back but since I got my scooter, I have been looking forward to going with those two!  I love the zoo (I worked at a small exotic animal zoo, back in my 30's)!  Here are a few pics I snapped.  They are having a wonderful dinosaur display, this summer, called "Zoorassic Park".

Don't know why the billy goat was licking the pole...
